Retirement is a major life transition, and preparing for it can involve many questions. When should you begin getting ready? What information should you review? Which decisions may need your attention as retirement approaches? The “Plan Your Retirement with Confidence” workshop invites postal employees to set aside time to think about these questions and build a clearer understanding of the steps involved in preparing for retirement.

Presented by the New York Metro Area Postal Union, APWU AFL-CIO, this two-day educational event will take place in New York City on Thursday, November 12, and Friday, November 13, 2026. The program begins at 9:00 a.m. on both days and will be held at the Josie McMillian Conference Center, located at 350 W. 31st Street, 1st Floor, New York City.

The workshop will feature Mr. Joseph Martir, President of the New York Metro Area Postal Union (APWU AFL-CIO). The event is intended to give attendees time to focus on retirement preparation, consider the choices that may arise, and identify information they may need to gather or verify. It can be helpful to attend whether retirement is just around the corner or still several years away: earlier preparation gives you more time to organize your questions, review relevant information, and think carefully about your goals.

Throughout the two-day program, attendees can focus on their own retirement planning concerns and reflect on how their timeline and priorities may shape their next steps. You may want to consider questions such as what you should review before making retirement decisions, where to find reliable information about your benefits, and which details need to be confirmed with the appropriate official sources. Bringing questions and relevant records may help you make the most of the educational experience.

Retirement planning is personal. The information that matters most can depend on your work history, anticipated retirement date, financial priorities, and the choices available to you. This workshop provides an opportunity to pause, learn, and think through your preparation in a setting organized for postal employees. Participants can use the time to clarify what they already understand, note topics that require more research, and identify questions to follow up on after the event.

The goal is to help you approach retirement planning with greater awareness and preparation. Learning about the process can help you organize your thoughts, recognize decisions that may need attention, and feel more confident about the questions you bring to your next planning conversation. The workshop is educational and does not replace individualized guidance or official determinations about your benefits.
